Re-designing a career

As the old familiar Gene Autry song goes, “I’m back in the saddle again”. Woo hoo! That’s me, only I am holding the reins pretty tight this time.
This year I found myself out of work like so many others. I could have been considered one of the design industries job loss fatalities accept for one thing, rather than letting it discourage me I decided to keep my chin up and go back to what I was doing before.
In 2002 I had launched my own design studio and practiced small commercial and residential design. I was in practice for several years until being hired on in 2007 by a Portland based Architecture Firm specializing in Healthcare Design. Working for this firm was an amazing learning experience for me. I now have the opportunity to utilize much of the information I obtained over the years in order to benefit my new design firm.
Yes, it may seem fruitless to start up a small business in an economy such as this. Just running a business can be a daunting task especially if you are doing almost everything by your self. I will be the first one to admit, as a creative person, the technical side of business can be a bit intimidating.
Once I made up my mind to start up my business again strange things kept happening to me. People and opportunities to develop my business kept finding me. Was it Divine will? Most defiantly! I strongly believe that nothing is impossible especially if you are given a gift and are willing to nurture that gift to maturity. One must be willing to fail and learn from failure before attaining success. My love for design and helping people is what compels me to move forward on this new journey. If you have made it this far through my website you will see that I am moving full steam ahead ready and excited for the next phase of my design career.
I want to express a heartfelt thank you to all of my clients, friends and family who believe in me and have stood by to help me succeed. I know that I could have not come this far without your support. I won’t let you down.
I give my special thanks to Ryan Bir and Matthew Lamb, two young architects, who with their amazing creative talent and generosity have helped me to create not only my new business image, but my website as well. I owe you guys’ big time!
